Making a prediction

Sometimes it can be a bit tricky when I try to make a prediction. Sometimes I need to read a little bit and have another think. My prediction was kind of right.

Balancing on the beam

We are learning how to balance on a beam in Gymnastics. We have to carefully climb on the beam and stand up. We have to  put our aeroplanes arms out to help us balance. We then have to walk all the way to the other side. Sometimes we have to turn and go back too. It can be scary sometimes because the beam wobbles when we walk on it. We are all getting better at balancing on the beam!

Using other punctuation

I am learning when to use other punctuation
e.g. commaexclamation markquestion markapostrophespeech marks

Guess what I did on the weekend? I went to my Grandma's house for a sleep over. I watched two movies on the tv. I watched Tinker Bell and Shrek. I loved watching moviesIt was fun!

I am most proud of being able to use lots of punctuation. I know I can use a question mark, an apostrophe and an exclamation mark. I know I can use the other punctuation as well.

Non fiction books

I am learning to describe the features of a non-fiction text.

The book ‘The Biggest Land Animal” is a non-fiction text. I know it is non-fiction because:

Photos
What type of pictures are in this book?
Real pictures of true things.

Index
What does the index tell us?

Tells us what is in the book and where to find them.
Glossary
What does the glossary tell us?
What the words are in the book.
Why do we read non-fiction books?
So we can learn about real true things.
What have you learnt from reading this book?

Lots about elephants.

It was easy to talk about non fiction books because I know a lot about them.

Adding detail

I am learning to add some detail to my writing.

Lolly the Whale

One windy day in the ocean lived a happy whale called Lolly. Lolly has a friend called Polly. They were friends together. One day they were swimming together doing nothing and last night they were breathing up in the sky. They were happy.

It is easy to add detail to my story. It tells people more about my story. I like it.

St John Visit

Mac from St John came to talk to the children at Elm Park School about safety and first Aid. He brought his mini ambulance Amby along with him. Mac taught Room 11 about who to call when there is an emergency. We looked at different pictures and had to decide if we needed to call for the police, the firemen or an ambulance. We had actions that we had to do to show Mac that we knew who to call!

Shape Monster

I am learning to name and describe plane shapes.

We are learning about Geometry in Room 11. We are learning to name plane shapes and to say how many sides and corners the shape has. We created shape monsters and wrote a description about them.

I liked the colours of my shape monster. I thought it was easy to remember how many sides and corner my shape monster has.

Making ten to add

I am learning to split numbers to make ten to help me add.

I like doing this maths. I think it is easy because I am good at it.

Youthtown

Room 11 has been going to Youthtown this term. We have been learning how to throw a ball at a target. We learned that you need to have your one arm in an L shape ready to throw the ball. The other arm needs to be pointing at the target. Then we have to do a power throw and try to hit the target. Sometimes we hit the cones and sometimes the ball goes in a different direction.

Word Clouds

Max and Ruby were using their blowholes. They were splashing each other. They like to splash each other.

I am learning to sound out words when I am writing and underline my try words.

I am proud of my writing because I really want to try sound out my words. I'm trying to underline them but sometimes I forget.

Self-Portrait

I have been learning how to draw my self-portrait. First Mrs Scott came to show us how to sketch our face. We sketched our face shape first. Then we drew our guidelines to help us remember where our eyes, nose, mouth and ears went. We practised using a whispering pencil and a shouting pencil. Our first sketch looked a bit funny so we tried again. This time we used a photo of us to help us. We had to start all over again! Miss Radue then helped us rub out all the whispering pencil guidelines and photocopied our sketches so they were bigger. We had to go around our sketch with vivid and then we used pastel to colour in our self-portraits. It was hard work but we had a lot of fun!
